Sometimes we forget about the places nearest to us, that could be good to spend some time visiting. Whether you visit with family, or a carer or companion, we've selected a range of places, some of which are good for dropping into when you have a couple of hours free and others that can be a longer excursion and may cost a little more for entry.
Sunbury Walled Garden & The Sunbury Embroidery Gallery, Lower Sunbury - The walled garden, ebroidery gallery and the cafe share space on the side of Sunbury Park. The walled garden is lovely for a stroll. The embroidery gallery has a permanent exhibition housing the Village Panel, depicting the local area with 130 pieces of embroidery joined to form the full piece (3m x 1m). Spelthorne Museum, Staines - On display at the museum are local finds including a mammoth tusk, Roman pots, and a replica of Neolithic Shepperton Woman. There are also regular talks, events and activities. Location: TW18 4PG Contact: 01784 461804
The Ferry Coffee Shop, Shepperton - Head to The Ferry Coffee shop by the Thames in Shepperton. Whilst you are there you can browse the small selection of courtyard shops at Ferry Point, just behind the coffee shop. Or take a short stroll up to the lock and watch the boats go by.​ Location: TW17 9LQ ​Contact: 01932 221094
Notcutts Garden Centre, Laleham - The garden centre is the ideal place for some retail therapy (or window shopping) with a great selection gifts, cards, homeware, gardenware and plants on offer. Marble Hill House Park (English Heritage), Twickenham - The House at Marble Hill is open and free to enter at certain times of the year. Please check before you visit. The house is set in acres of parkland adjoining the riverside, which can be nice for a walk. The park entrance is closed at night -please check. Kew Royal Botanic Gardens From the famous Arboretum to the Winter Garden and alpine rock gardens, there's so much to see here. Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton on Thames - Provide a year round programme of events; music, drama, comedy and art exhibitions. There is also a community cafe which is run by volunteers and staff who create beautiful dishes using surplus food. Location: KT12 2PF Contact No: 01932 253354

Brooklands Museum, Weybridge - The museum is home to classic vehicles and aircraft all housed on the sight of the first purpose-built race track. The Savill Garden, Englefield Green - A 35-acre haven of gardens, woodland and seasonal displays, originally commissioned by George V, on the edge of Windsor Great Park. There is a charge to entre the gardens, which are open daily 9am -4.30pm. Carers supporting someone with disability related needs can enter for free. There is a restaurant with terrace and a cafe within the visitor centre, which also has a lovely gift shop. Nearby Virginia Water Lakes can be visited for free. Location: TW20 0UJ
